10 Family-Friendly Places to Eat in Siesta Key, Florida

Siesta Key Village Trolley

Any time we’re on vacation, we love eating at locally owned restaurants we can’t find anywhere else.  When looking for family friendly places to eat in Siesta Key, Florida, we aimed for our usual criteria for vacation dining. Outdoor seating in the warmer weather, great food including a kid’s menu, and amazing cocktails are usually a must. Although things have certainly changed since dining out with a kid, we’re not about to sacrifice great food and atmosphere just because we have a little one in tow!

While Siesta Key is known for it’s bar scene (thanks in part to the MTV series) it’s just as great for families. The outdoor seating and live music we love on any vacation are plentiful in this Florida beachside town. From breakfast, lunch and dinner to ice cream places, there’s no shortage of great restaurants in Siesta Key Village.

Breakfast in Siesta Key

One of our favorite things to do on vacation is to walk to breakfast in the morning before the sun gets too hot. With the beautiful scenery in Siesta Key, it’s the perfect spot to do just that.

In addition to the Siesta Key breakfast places listed below, the Siesta Beach Pavilion is another great option. It’s perfect for a quick breakfast or lunch, and you certainly can’t beat the views!

Another Broken Egg Cafe

If you’re looking for a great menu with a combination of traditional and unique breakfast items, Another Broken Egg Cafe is a Siesta Key breakfast spot you need to try.   We split the yummy sweet potato pancakes and savory crab cakes with fried green tomatoes.  You really can’t go wrong with either!  They also have several types of Bloody Mary’s and other brunch cocktails.

If you’re visiting Another Broken Egg for the first time, be sure to tell your server.  First time customers are brought a few delicious, complimentary beignets. They also have coloring pencils and a coloring page as well as a kids’ menus for the little ones.   (P.S. This is a franchise restaurant with multiple locations, but one that’s definitely worth going to!)

Location: 140 Avenida Messina, Sarasota, FL

Bonjour French Cafe

Bonjour French Cafe is another place for some of the best breakfast in Siesta Key. This french-inspired restaurant is known for its sweet and savory crepes. (They even offer buckwheat crepes if you’re feeling extra healthy that day!) I tried the veggie crepes while my husband had the yummy eggs benedict. There’s also a great kids menu that offers both lunch and breakfast options. And our son loved the pancakes with fresh fruit on the side! There’s ample seating indoors and out, and it’s the perfect spot to get a little bit of France in a relaxed, family friendly setting.

Meaney’s Mini Donuts

Looking for the best donuts in Siesta Key? This coffee, mini donut and soft serve ice cream spot stand is just as great for dessert as it is for breakfast. We had Meaney’s mini donuts one morning for breakfast after passing it the night before. (And basically drooling over the donuts and ice cream.) The donuts are freshly made throughout the day, and they’re hand dipped to order. While it’s only a stand, you can snag a spot at a nearby bench if you want to sit and enjoy your donuts.

Location: 201 Canal Road, Sarasota, FL 34242

We’ve also been told that Sun Garden Cafe and Village Cafe are great options for a healthy, fresh breakfast. We didn’t have time on this trip, but they’re definitely on our list to try next time!

Lunch or Dinner in Siesta Key with Kids

There are so many options for family friendly restaurants in Siesta Key. The casual atmosphere of this little beach town makes almost any restaurant kid-friendly, but we do have a few favorites! Below are some options for places to eat lunch or dinner with family in Siesta Key.

Siesta Key Oyster Bar

After hearing so many great things about Siesta Key Oyster Bar (SKOB) from family and friends, it was high on our list of places to eat at in Siesta Key. The oysters are as amazing as you’d expect from an oyster bar so close to the beach. And you can’t beat the $7 price tag during happy hour! We loved the mahi fish tacos and lobster rolls, and they offer a kids menu with crayons and a coloring page as well.

One of our favorite things about SKOB in addition to the oysters is definitely the live music. On the day we went for dinner, Kaptain Kurt was performing. Not only was he a great musician, but he invited our little guy to jam out with him using the maracas and tambourine.

Tip: SKOB is consistently pretty packed, and for good reason. Get there early to avoid a long wait (or just enjoy the live music while you wait.) Siesta Key Oyster Bar also offers “call ahead” seating to get your place in line on the waitlist.

The Hub Baja Grill

Hub Baja Grill Kid-Friendly Restaurants in Siesta Key

The Hub Baja Grill has Baja-inspired Mexican and seafood cuisine and is located in the main intersection of Siesta Key Village.   While there are a couple of Mexican restaurants in Siesta Key, FL, this one is by far our favorite. With so many Siesta Key restaurants with outdoor seating to choose from, the patio at The Hub was our favorite. The location on the main intersection makes it prime for people watching. (Or car and truck watching, in the case of our toddler.)

We loved this place so much that we went twice during our trip. I rarely visit a place more than once while traveling, but I couldn’t say “no” to my quesadilla and guac loving son! I highly recommend the grouper bites, tuna poke lettuce wraps and fish tacos.  And you can’t go wrong with the strawberry jalapeño margarita if you’re looking for a yummy drink.

The Hub Baja Grill also has live music daily.

Tip: If you’re there on a Saturday night, be sure to take your kids over to the balloon guy in Siesta Key. He’s usually set up between The Hub and The Cottage.

The Cottage

Aptly named for its cottage look and feel, The Cottage in Siesta Key is is a quaint indoor/ outdoor restaurant with a diverse menu.  The Cottage is rated one of the best restaurants in Siesta Key for good reason. The Forbidden Salmon entree was amazing, and they’re also known for the Billionaire Burger made with short rib and brisket. (A great option if you’re looking for a break from the seafood that Siesta Key is known for!)  For our picky vegetarian toddler, they were even willing to go next door to their sister restaurant to have something made. We have to thank the Hub Baja Grill for that grilled cheese too!

Walt’s Fish Market Restaurant & Tiki Bar

Walt’s Fish Market is just over the bridge from Siesta Key, and it’s a local Sarasota institution known for having some of the freshest fish around.  The regular menu and daily specials are plentiful, and you really can’t go wrong with anything, including the kid’s menu. Like most restaurants in the area, they don’t take reservations.  I definitely recommend getting here early, especially if you’re dining with kids.

If you do have a wait, there’s a large outdoor patio at Walt’s Fish Market and tiki bar with tons of seating. They also have live music, and the singer the night we were there even played a rendition of Baby Shark for our music-loving son. And if you’re looking for a yummy adult beverage, I highly recommend the jalapeño pineapple margarita. (If you haven’t noticed, jalapeño margaritas of some variation were definitely my go-to on this trip!)

Looking for pizza in Siesta Key?

There are a couple great Siesta Key pizza places that we didn’t have time for on this trip. Flavio’s offers brick oven pizza and Italian food specialties. Ripfire Pizza & BBQ is a newer, casual spot with wood fired pizza and bar-b-que. Both come recommended by family who lives part time in the area.

Ice Cream Shops in Siesta Key, Florida

I can’t go without mentioning a few of the best ice cream shops in Siesta Key. Ice cream is definitely our thing on vacation, and we love finding local spots with unique flavors. The ice cream in Siesta Key certainly exceeded our expectations!

Local Chill Ice Cream Shops in Siesta Key

Local Chill Artisan Ice Cream

This artisan ice cream spot is newer ice cream shop in Siesta Key Village and it didn’t disappoint. The flavors options are amazing, including the Salted Caramel Swirl and Cookie Dough flavors we tried. And if you’re really having a sweet tooth that day, be sure to try Local Chill’s yummy sundae options. The Cookie Colossus and Extra Spectacular Awesomeness both have freshly baked cookies with tons of topics. My husband had the Extra Spectacular Awesomeness. It has a warm sugar cookie at the bottom and an endless number of toppings. (And he was happily in a food coma afterwards!)

Local Chill also has a large seating area outside that’s in a prime location right on Ocean Boulevard. It was the perfect spot for people watching while enjoying your ice cream.

Location: 5140 Ocean Blvd, Sarasota, FL

Big Olaf Creamery

This place has been around for over 25 years and it’s no surprise that it’s one of the best places for ice cream in Siesta Key. The ice cream at Big Olaf’s is handmade in batches with super fresh ingredients. The line was to the door every time we walked by. And I could see why after just one bite. There are tons of flavors with some rotating specials, and we loved the blueberry cheesecake ice cream.

Location: 2001 Cattleman Rd., Unit 123, Sarasota, FL

Made in Rome Organic Gelato

The gelato at Made in Rome is completely organic and homemade. Having been to Rome, I can truly say it rivals the gelato in Italy. Our favorite part was some of the unique flavors you can’t find anywhere else, with our son’s favorite being the Activated Charcoal. (It was seriously so good and kind of hilarious that our toddler looked like he put a charcoal face mask on after eating.) There are also several tables with outdoor seating available right outside.
